Dr Van der Wall has supervised 17 PhD students to completion of their higher degrees in the 25 years. This has resulted in the production of a large body of innovative literature in areas of nuclear medicine that vary widely. In particular, this has included exploration of new methods of imaging pulmonary thromboembolic and fat embolic disease. More recently, we have developed and patented a test for lateralising lower back pain due to sacroiliac joint dysfunction. We are in the process of patenting a test for the diagnosis of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and its extra-oesophageal manifestations, particularly in the laryngopharynx and lungs.
