Indication for test

Blood clot in the lungs. This is a potentially life threatening condition. If the test is positive at the discretion of your referring specialist you may be required to go to Hospital immediately following the scan.

How long does the test take?

Please allow 1 hour

What does the test involve?

You will be given a small dose of a radioactive tracer into a vein in your arm.
Images will be performed for approximately 30 minutes underneath the camera
 
Is there any preparation?

No

Can I take my medication?

Yes.

What are the side effects?

None. You are able to drive. (see precautions)

Precautions following the procedure

As a result of the radioactive injection/s you will be giving off a small amount of radiation. It is advisable you limit your time in close proximity to pregnant women and children for 24 hours following the test.
