Why is this scan performed?

A Gated Heart Pool Scan is used to evaluate the function of the different chambers of the heart. An ECG is performed at the same time as the scan and allows the blood flow to be assessed at different stages during the heart cycle.

What is involved? 

A measurement is taken of the efficiency of the Left Ventricle to pump blood. This is a more accurate measure than an Echo/Ultrasound of the heart.

No preparation required.

How long does the test take?

The test takes 1 hour

There are no side effects from this test.

Are there any precautions to follow?

You will be giving off a small amount of radiation as a result of the test and therefore, it is advised that you limit your time in close proximity to pregnant ladies and small children.
